Eye Candy // EcoSpheres! 6th February 2012 Start your week off right with some Susty Eye Candy! This week, the completely self-sustaining little globe filled with the perfect balance of shrimp and algae that survive by consuming each other’s wastes. Unlike an aquarium, the EcoSphere is a closed ecological system. Nothing but sunlight enters, and everything else (oxygen, carbon dioxide, food, etc.) is created and recycled. The first EcoSphere was created in 1981 in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs, where scientists were working to create self-contained communities for space travel. For extra cred, they were reviewed by Carl Sagan! Love, Madelyn!
