Gluten-Free Vegan Banana Bread (with Bourbon!)

As soon as I learned that buckwheat flour was gluten-free it felt like a dream! You see a friend of mine is having gluten trouble. I've made it my mission for her to be able to eat an awesome everything without the fear of feeling sick. So introducing.... my mom's banana bread! Revised to be vegan, gluten-free and with bourbon!

So bake this up and pop it on a palm leaf plate and bring it to your bestie. Bring it to work! Or don't bother sharing it! No matter what, just know, that this bread has got everyone's back no matter what their food intolerance is. Holla holla.

Gluten-Free Vegan Banana Bread (with Bourbon!)


  • 3 freckled bananas 
  • 1 1/4 cups buckwheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • scant 3/4 cup almond milk, topped off with bourbon
  • 1 flax egg (1 tablespoon flax meal + 3 Tablespoons water)
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil (or coconut oil)
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Brush 1 large bread pan with oil. 
  2. In a large bowl mash the bananas. Add all of the remaining ingredients and mix, mix, mix, until completely combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared bread pan. Bake the large loaf fro 60-75 minutes (or until cake tester comes out clean). Remove from pan and allow to cool completely on a wire rack. Serve warm with coconut oil and cinnamon.
